The problem for accommodation is that it's all so close to Adelaide. Many visitors come for the day and drive home. The overnight market is Adelaide couples wanting a proper break, interstate visitors on a South Australian wine trip, wedding guests and families on the way further down the Fleurieu Peninsula to Victor Harbor or the Kangaroo Island ferry at Cape Jervis.
Late summer and autumn are the peak, with warm weather and vintage. SummerVines runs across the region in January, the Grenache and Gourmet festival in October, and the Fleurieu Folk Festival in Willunga in October too. Winter is the low season, when lunches by the fire matter more than the beach. Stays are B&Bs, vineyard cottages, beach houses and a few boutique properties, and many rely on Airbnb, Stayz and Booking.com.

Getting here
McLaren Vale is about 40 to 45 minutes' drive south of Adelaide via the Southern Expressway, and Adelaide Airport is roughly 40 km away. Adelaide Airport has regular interstate flights.
