Mussoorie sits on a ridge at about 2,000 metres above Dehradun, with the Doon Valley on one side and the snow peaks on the other. Guests come for the Mall Road, Camel's Back Road, Gun Hill, Kempty Falls and the cool air in summer. Above the town, Landour's quiet lanes, Char Dukan and Lal Tibba draw a slower, more bookish crowd who want cafes, walks and old cottages.
Most guests are Indian families, couples and friends from Delhi NCR, Chandigarh, Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh and Dehradun itself. The Delhi-Dehradun expressway opened in April 2026 and brings Dehradun within a few hours of Delhi, so short weekend trips are easier than before. The town also has a steady flow of parents visiting Woodstock, St George's, Wynberg Allen and other boarding schools, plus visitors linked to the civil services academy.
That demand is concentrated. Weekends and long holidays fill fast, and Dehradun police now run weekend traffic plans for the Mussoorie road. Since April 2026, Landour Cantonment allows a limited number of tourist vehicles a day, with online registration required. Stays range from old Mall Road hotels to hillside cottages and homestays towards Dhanaulti and Kempty. Booking sites lead most broad searches, so smaller stays need their own Google presence to be seen.

Getting here
Dehradun's Jolly Grant airport is about 60 km from Mussoorie, and Dehradun railway station has trains from Delhi and beyond. From Dehradun it's roughly an hour up the hill, more on weekends. Delhi is about 290 km by road, and the Delhi-Dehradun expressway, opened in April 2026, has cut the plains part of the drive. For Landour, tourist vehicles need to register online in advance, and guests with hotel bookings can register free.
