Hotel & resort marketing · Mysuru, KarnatakaDasara fills Mysuru. Let's fill the other 50 weeks.
Mysuru is packed for ten days in October and busy with day-trippers the rest of the year. We help heritage hotels, boutique stays and homestays get more guests to stay the night, and book direct.
The Mysuru market
Who comes to Mysuru, and why
Mysuru is the old royal city of Karnataka, about 140 km south-west of Bengaluru. Guests come for the Mysuru Palace and its evening light and sound show, the Chamundeshwari Temple on Chamundi Hills, St Philomena's Cathedral, the zoo, Brindavan Gardens at the Krishnaraja Sagar dam and the temples of nearby Srirangapatna. They also come for silk, sandalwood and Mysore pak, and for the city's calm, walkable old quarters.
The biggest moment of the year is Mysuru Dasara, ten days of Navaratri celebrations ending on Vijayadashami with the Jamboo Savari elephant procession. In 2026 it runs from 11 to 21 October. The rest of the year, many Bengaluru visitors come for the day and drive home, which is the core problem for stays here. Others use Mysuru as a base for Coorg, Kabini, Bandipur and Ooty. The city is also known worldwide for Ashtanga yoga, and yoga students stay for weeks or months.
Stays cover almost everything. There are palace-style heritage hotels, old bungalows turned into boutique stays, business hotels, serviced apartments for long-stay yoga students and a growing number of homestays in residential areas. Homestays in Karnataka must now register under the state's 2025 guidelines, with inspections and a certificate valid for five years. Once you're registered, it's worth showing clearly, because guests increasingly look for it.
Who books
Who stays in Mysuru
Bengaluru families and couples
They often plan a day trip. Give them a reason to stay the night: the palace lit up, a heritage dinner and an easy morning at Chamundi Hills.
Dasara visitors
They book months ahead, want to be close to the palace and the procession route, and need clear advice on road closures and parking.
Yoga students
They come from India and abroad for weeks or months. They want quiet rooms, a kitchen or healthy meals, good Wi-Fi and monthly rates.
Circuit travellers heading to Coorg, Kabini or Ooty
They stop for one or two nights on the way. They care about easy parking, an early breakfast and help planning the next leg.
The year
When guests come to Mysuru
Dasara and winter
October to February
Dasara in October, then pleasant winter weather, Christmas and New Year. Sell Dasara early and push winter heritage weekends straight after.
Summer
March to May
Hot afternoons, but school holidays bring families on south India trips. Market pools, air-conditioned rooms and combined Mysuru, Coorg or Ooty plans.
Monsoon
June to September
Milder and greener, with fewer tourists. Aim at long-stay yoga students, business travellers and Bengaluru weekenders who want a quiet heritage break.
Getting here
Most guests drive from Bengaluru, about 140 km away, on the Bengaluru to Mysuru expressway. It usually takes about two to three hours, and longer on Friday and Sunday evenings. Mysuru Junction has frequent trains from Bengaluru and direct trains to Chennai. Mysuru airport, about 8 km south of the city, has only a few flights, so most flyers land at Bengaluru and take a bus or cab.
The hard part
What makes marketing in Mysuru hard
Mysuru has plenty of visitors, but not all of them stay the night.
- Many Bengaluru visitors come as day-trippers, especially since the expressway opened.
- Dasara brings huge demand for a few days, then prices and occupancy drop sharply.
- The city has a lot of hotels, so guests often choose on price in booking apps.
- Homestays must register under Karnataka's 2025 guidelines before they can market openly and confidently.
- Heritage hotels can look alike online, and guests struggle to tell one old bungalow from another.
We can't move Dasara, but we can help you give guests a reason to stay, and to book with you directly.
What we'd do
What we'd do for your Mysuru property
Here's how we'd approach a heritage hotel, boutique stay or homestay in Mysuru.
A Dasara page, updated every year
Dates, the procession route, road closures and how far you are from the palace, published months ahead. Guests planning Dasara search early, and a helpful page gets found.
A "stay the night" offer
A package built around the palace illumination, dinner and a morning at Chamundi Hills, aimed at Bengaluru day-trippers on Instagram and Google.
Long-stay pages for yoga students
Monthly rates, kitchen access, quiet rooms and distances to the yoga areas, shared where students plan their stays.
A base-camp page for Coorg and Kabini
Simple drive-time guides to Coorg, Kabini, Bandipur and Ooty, with an early breakfast and a stay-on-the-way rate.
Google listing and photos that tell your story
A complete Google Business Profile with real photos of your rooms, courtyards and heritage details, so you stand out from similar hotels.
Reviews that mention what's special
Ask guests to mention the building, the breakfast or the host by name. Specific reviews help you beat hotels that only compete on price.
Useful on its own
What guests search, and what to post.
The first list is the kind of thing guests type when looking for a stay in Mysuru. Your website and Google listing should answer them. The second is a start on your next month of Instagram.

Questions
Marketing a stay in Mysuru
Something else on your mind? Ask us on WhatsApp.
How do I get Bengaluru day-trippers to stay the night?
Give them a reason. Build a simple overnight offer around the palace illumination, a good dinner and a morning at Chamundi Hills or Srirangapatna. Show it on Instagram and your Google listing, where people plan their weekend. Many guests don't realise how much they miss by driving back the same evening.
When should I start marketing for Dasara?
Months ahead. Guests planning Dasara look early, especially for the final days and the Jamboo Savari. Publish your Dasara page with dates, distances and road-closure tips as soon as dates are announced, send offers to past guests, and keep some rooms for direct bookings instead of giving everything to apps.
Do I need to register my homestay in Mysuru?
Yes. Karnataka's 2025 guidelines make registration mandatory for homestays, with inspections by the tourism department, police and district officials, and a certificate valid for five years. Once you're registered, show it on your website and Google listing. It builds trust and lets you market openly.
Is the yoga market worth targeting?
If your stay suits long visits, yes. Yoga students often stay for weeks or months, return year after year and recommend places to each other. A page with monthly rates, kitchen access, Wi-Fi and distances to the yoga areas can bring steady guests in the months when tourists are fewer.
