Hotel & resort marketing · Digha, West BengalKolkata fills Digha on weekends. Let's fill Tuesday.
Digha is the beach most Bengali families know best. We help hotels and resorts in Old Digha, New Digha and along the coast to Mandarmani stand out and win direct bookings.
The Digha market
Who comes to Digha, and why
Digha is West Bengal's best-known seaside town, on the Bay of Bengal in Purba Medinipur, with beaches running over 7 km. Old Digha has faced heavy erosion and now has a concrete sea wall. New Digha, about a kilometre away, has the wider beach, the Science Centre and most new hotels. Guests come for the sea, fresh fish, the Marine Aquarium, the evening walk along the front and the nearby Chandaneswar Shiva temple.
Since April 2025 Digha has had another big draw: a large Jagannath temple in New Digha, built in the Kalinga style as a replica of the Puri temple, on a 24-acre complex near the railway station. It has added a pilgrim crowd to the usual beach crowd, including older family members who might not have come for the beach alone. Families now often plan a temple visit and a night by the sea together.
Almost all guests are from Kolkata and the rest of Bengal. Most come for one or two nights, by train or car, on weekends and holidays. Stays range from small budget lodges and mid-range hotels in Old and New Digha to larger resorts along the coast at Shankarpur, Tajpur and Mandarmani. Competition is intense, rates swing hard between Saturday and Tuesday, and many hotels rely on booking sites and walk-ins.
Who books
Who stays in Digha
Kolkata families on a weekend
They come Friday night or Saturday morning and leave on Sunday. They want a clean room close to the beach, good fish meals, parking and a fair price.
Pilgrim families
They come for the Jagannath temple and add a beach night. Older guests care about lifts, vegetarian food options, easy temple access and help with auto-rickshaws.
Couples heading to Mandarmani or Tajpur
They want a quieter beach, a sea-facing room and a resort pool. They compare on Instagram and pay more for a better view.
Office groups and friend groups
They book several rooms for a night or two. They want group rates, a place to sit together in the evening and simple, fast food service.
The year
When guests come to Digha
Peak season
October to February
Cool weather, Puja holidays, Christmas and New Year bring the biggest crowds. Weekends sell out early. Push direct bookings early and hold rates on Saturdays.
Summer
March to June
Hot and humid, but school holidays and Bengali New Year still bring families. Market air conditioning, the pool, early-morning beach walks and temple visits.
Monsoon
July to September
Rough sea, bathing restrictions on some days and fewer guests. Market monsoon views of the sea, temple trips and good-value weekday stays to Kolkata families.
Getting here
Digha is about 180 km from Kolkata, roughly four to five hours by road via Kolaghat and Nandakumar. Trains from Howrah reach Digha station, and the Tamralipta Express takes about three and a half hours. Buses run often from Esplanade and other Kolkata stops. Kolkata airport is the nearest airport. Shankarpur is about 14 km east of Digha and Mandarmani about 30 km, both reached by road.
The hard part
What makes marketing in Digha hard
Digha never lacks guests on a Saturday, but that's also when every hotel is fighting for the same ones.
- Demand is mostly weekends and holidays, and weekdays can be very quiet outside peak months.
- Hundreds of hotels compete on price, and booking sites push rates down further.
- Many guests don't know the difference between Old Digha, New Digha, Mandarmani and Tajpur, so they pick the wrong area and blame the hotel.
- Rough sea and bathing restrictions in the monsoon keep beach-first guests away.
- Reviews often complain about crowds, noise or cleanliness on the beach, which a hotel can't control.
We can't make Digha less crowded on a long weekend, but we can help the right guests find you and book with you directly.
What we'd do
What we'd do for your Digha hotel
Here's how we'd approach a hotel or resort in Digha, New Digha or along the coast.
Say exactly where you are
A website and Google listing that explain your area clearly: walking time to the beach, the Jagannath temple, the station and the market. This stops wrong-area bookings.
Temple and beach packages
One-night packages that combine a temple visit, a beach evening and meals, aimed at Kolkata families with older parents.
Weekday offers for Kolkata
Midweek rates for retired couples, work-from-anywhere guests and small groups, shared through WhatsApp, Facebook groups and Google posts.
Google Maps first
A complete Google Business Profile with fresh photos, updated prices and replies to every review, for searches like "hotel near digha jagannath temple".
Instagram about your view and food
Short reels of your sea view, sunrise, fish thali and rooms, so guests can tell you apart from the hotel next door.
Direct booking perks
A clear reason to book with you instead of a booking site, like late checkout on Sundays, free parking or a welcome snack.
Useful on its own
What guests search, and what to post.
The first list is the kind of thing guests type when looking for a stay in Digha. Your website and Google listing should answer them. The second is a start on your next month of Instagram.

Questions
Marketing a stay in Digha
Something else on your mind? Ask us on WhatsApp.
How do I get more bookings on weekdays?
Target guests who can travel midweek: retired couples, small office groups, people working remotely and families with young kids. Give them a proper weekday rate and something extra, like a free dinner or a temple drop. Share it on WhatsApp, Facebook groups and your Google listing, not just on booking sites.
Should I market my hotel to Jagannath temple visitors?
Yes, if you're reasonably close or can help with transport. Many families now plan a Digha trip around the temple. Say clearly how far you are, what vegetarian food you offer and whether you have lifts or ground-floor rooms for older guests. Temple-focused guests often stay year-round, not just in beach season.
How do I compete with hundreds of hotels on price?
Don't compete on price alone. Show what makes you different: a sea view, a quiet lane, a good kitchen, parking, staff who care. Get plenty of honest reviews that mention these things. Guests will often pay a little more for a hotel they trust, and direct bookings save you the booking-site commission.
Is Instagram really useful for a Digha hotel?
It helps, especially for resorts in New Digha, Mandarmani and Tajpur. Many younger Kolkata guests check Instagram before they book. Short reels of your view, rooms and food work well. You don't need fancy content, just regular, honest posts that show what a stay with you actually looks like.
