The glass skywalk in the Rajgir Nature Safari, the Zoo Safari and the ropeway up to the Vishwa Shanti Stupa on Ratnagiri hill draw families and young groups from Patna and the rest of Bihar, especially on weekends and holidays. International Buddhist pilgrims come on the Bodh Gaya circuit, and Jain pilgrims visit the temples on Rajgir's hills.
Stays include government tourism hotels, mid-range hotels and resorts, budget lodges near the hot springs and a few guesthouses. The modern Nalanda University campus also brings academic visitors and parents through the year. The big problem is the day trip: many guests come from Patna, Bodh Gaya or Gaya, see the sights and leave. A stay has to sell the evening and the next morning, not just a bed.

Green hills and fewer visitors. The Malmas, or Purushottam Maas, mela falls in the extra lunar month that comes round every few years and brings big crowds when it does.
Getting here
Rajgir has its own railway station, with trains from Patna and beyond. Patna is about 110 km by road, roughly three hours, and Patna airport is the most common arrival point for domestic guests. Gaya airport is about 78 km away and suits guests on the Bodh Gaya circuit. Nalanda is a short drive, and Bodh Gaya is about two to three hours by road. Give guests clear drive times and pickup options.
