Netarhat is Jharkhand's best-known hill station, sitting at about 1,128 m on the Chotanagpur plateau in Latehar district. People call it the Queen of Chotanagpur. Lodh Falls, the highest waterfall in Jharkhand, is a longer drive away.
Most guests are domestic and regional. Families and friends drive in from Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad and Bokaro, and some come from Kolkata and Patna for a longer break. Many combine Netarhat with Betla National Park, which lies partly in the same district. Netarhat Vidyalaya, the residential school set up in 1954, also brings parents and alumni through the year, and some guests are simply curious to see the old British Governor's summer retreat.
Stays are limited: a Jharkhand Tourism hotel, a forest lodge, a few private resorts and hotels, and a small but growing number of homestays. Because rooms are scarce, weekends and holidays sell out while weekdays stay quiet. Getting here
Ranchi is the gateway, with the nearest airport (Birsa Munda) and the nearest major railway station. Netarhat is about 150 km from Ranchi by road, usually four to five hours through Lohardaga and forest ghats. Most guests drive or hire a taxi, and buses also run. Guests from Kolkata or Patna usually fly or take a train to Ranchi first. Share clear route details, and advise guests to reach before dark.
