Hotel & resort marketing · Udaipur, RajasthanEveryone sells the lake view. Let's sell yours.
Udaipur has hundreds of rooms that look at a lake or a palace. We help heritage hotels, boutique stays, villas and resorts show guests why theirs is the one to book, and get that booking direct.
The Udaipur market
Who comes to Udaipur, and why
Udaipur sells itself on a picture: Lake Pichola, the City Palace and white havelis at the water's edge. Guests come for the lakes, the old city lanes, rooftop dinners, sunset at Ambrai Ghat, boat rides and the view from Sajjangarh, the Monsoon Palace. Many are first-timers on a Rajasthan loop. Just as many are repeat weekenders from Gujarat, because Ahmedabad is only about 260 km away by road and now linked by a Vande Bharat train.
Weddings are a market of their own. Udaipur is one of India's best-known destination wedding cities, and in the winter wedding season the big palace and lake properties fill fast. That spills over to everyone else. Smaller hotels and villas pick up guest overflow, family groups, pre-wedding shoots and couples who come back for anniversaries. If you can host a small wedding or house a wedding party, that is worth saying clearly on your site.
The stay mix is wide. There are converted havelis and guesthouses in the old city around Lal Ghat and Gangaur Ghat, boutique hotels near Fateh Sagar, and resorts and private villas on the Aravalli hills outside town, towards Badi Lake and the Kumbhalgarh road. The old city is crowded with small places that look similar on booking sites. The resorts outside town fight a different battle: guests don't know where they are.
Who books
Who stays in Udaipur
Gujarati families and couples
They drive in from Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Surat for long weekends, Diwali and the monsoon. They want parking, veg food, family rooms and an honest note on how far you are from the lake.
Wedding guests and small wedding groups
They book blocks of rooms around a date, often through a planner or a family member. They need quick answers on room counts, lawns, catering and transfers from Maharana Pratap Airport.
Honeymooners and anniversary couples
They look for a lake-view room, a rooftop dinner or a private pool villa. They scroll Instagram before they book, so real photos from your terrace at sunset do the selling.
Foreign and Rajasthan circuit travellers
They come for two or three nights on a Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur loop. They read reviews closely and care about walking distance to the City Palace and the ghats.
The year
When guests come to Udaipur
Peak season
October to March
Pleasant days, cool nights, Diwali, Christmas, New Year and the wedding season. Rooms sell anyway, so sell direct, sell early and push longer stays over quick one-nighters.
Monsoon
July to September
The lakes fill up, the hills turn green and Gujarat weekenders come back. Market monsoon weekends, lake views in the rain and drives to Sajjangarh and Badi Lake.
Summer
April to June
Hot, with daytime heat that keeps many guests away. Push pool villas, evening boat rides and the Mewar Festival at Gangaur, which usually falls in March or April.
Getting here
Maharana Pratap Airport is about 22 km from the city, with direct flights from Delhi, Mumbai and other metros. Udaipur City railway station has trains from Delhi, Mumbai and Jaipur, and a Vande Bharat train to Ahmedabad. By road, Ahmedabad is about 260 km, roughly four to five hours, which is why so many guests drive in from Gujarat for a weekend. Resorts on the hills outside town should give clear directions and pickup options.
The hard part
What makes marketing in Udaipur hard
Udaipur is famous, which helps, but it also means you're one lake view among hundreds.
- Old city stays look alike on booking sites: a rooftop, a lake, a carved window. Guests pick on price unless you give them a real reason to pick you.
- Booking sites take a big share of bookings, and their commission hurts most in the peak months when you'd sell the room anyway.
- Resorts outside the city are hard to place. Guests search "Udaipur" and don't know if 20 km out means peaceful or inconvenient.
- The wedding season crowds out everything else from November to February, and big properties dominate search for anything wedding related.
- Summer is a real slump, and many small hotels have no plan for it beyond dropping prices.
None of this is fixed in a month, but a clear site, a strong Google listing and steady reviews make you easier to choose.
What we'd do
What we'd do for your Udaipur property
Here's how we'd approach a heritage hotel, villa or resort in Udaipur.
Show exactly what the view is
Room by room photos and short videos, with honest notes like "lake view from the terrace, not the room". Clear, specific pages help you rank and cut down on unhappy guests.
Google listing for your part of town
A complete Google Business Profile for searches like "hotel near Lake Pichola" or "resort near Badi Lake", with fresh photos, correct pins and replies to every review.
Monsoon weekends for Gujarat
Monsoon packages aimed at Ahmedabad and Vadodara families, with Instagram and WhatsApp offers that go out before the long weekends, not after.
A small weddings page
If you can host a small wedding or a wedding party's overflow, a proper page with room counts, spaces, food and a WhatsApp enquiry button.
Direct booking reasons
A simple offer on your own site, like a free lake-view dinner upgrade or late checkout, so guests have a reason not to book through an OTA.
A summer plan
Pool and villa offers for April to June, and Google Ads with a small budget for heat-escape searches, so summer isn't just discounting.
Useful on its own
What guests search, and what to post.
The first list is the kind of thing guests type when looking for a stay in Udaipur. Your website and Google listing should answer them. The second is a start on your next month of Instagram.

Post ideas for Udaipur
- Sunset from your rooftop compared with sunset at Ambrai Ghat, filmed on the same evening.
- A monsoon reel: the first time Fateh Sagar fills up, and the view from your window the same week.
- The Gangaur boat procession at Gangaur Ghat during the Mewar Festival, and where to watch it from.
- A short guide to the drive up to Sajjangarh and why it's worth going at golden hour.
- Your kitchen making dal baati churma or laal maas, with the cook explaining it in their own words.
- A quiet morning walk from your door through the old city lanes to Jagdish Temple before the crowds.
Questions
Marketing a stay in Udaipur
Something else on your mind? Ask us on WhatsApp.
How do I stand out from all the lake-view hotels in Udaipur?
Be specific. Show the actual view from each room, not the best view on the property. Talk about what's different: your food, your family's story, the quiet lane you're on, the pool. Then get guests to mention those things in their reviews. Specific reviews and photos are what make a guest pick you over a place that looks the same.
Is the monsoon worth marketing in Udaipur?
Yes. The lakes fill up and the hills around the city turn green, and many Gujarat families come for exactly that. It is also when you have spare rooms. Put up monsoon packages early, show rain photos from your property, and send offers to past guests in Ahmedabad and Vadodara on WhatsApp before long weekends.
My resort is outside the city. How do I get found?
Don't hide the distance, sell it. Explain the drive time to the lake, the airport and the City Palace, and show what guests get in return: space, a pool, quiet, the hills. Make sure your Google pin and directions are right, and target searches for your own area, like Badi Lake or the Kumbhalgarh road.
Can a small hotel get wedding business in Udaipur?
Often, yes, just not the big palace weddings. Families need rooms for guests, and some couples want an intimate wedding with a short guest list. A clear page with your room count, spaces, food and photos, plus a fast WhatsApp reply, helps planners and families shortlist you when the big venues are full.
